Bedlining your entire Jeep seems like a bad idea. It’s h ard to clean, generally fades with time (may not be a big deal with the light color), and can be a bit rough if you lean against it. What does Oppo think?

That’s one of the silliest things I’ve seen done to a Jeep - and I feel like that’s really saying something.
Weight, aerodynamics, appearance... all of these things and more were spoiled by the beadliner

I’d say that if you want to bedline your trail rig go right ahead.
Otherwise it mostly offers no benefit and is only a hindrance for the reasons you listed plus the added weight.

I wonder how much aerodynamics are affected? Rough surfaces can cause turbulent air flow, and turbulent flow has less drag over a surface than laminar flow, but the jeep is a barn door anyways, so maybe laminar flow didn’t exist before.

If it’s an actual trail rig, I’d be cool with it, but if it’s on the typical Jeep mall crawler, then it’s incredibly stupid.

A friend of mine used to have a truck with a bed liner “paint” job...I couldn’t help but think that the entire body would rust away before you’d notice and then it would basically disintegrate

In their defense, weig ht and aerodynamics were never the model’s strong point. They're not spoiling much.

It was clean as a whistle, but it did have a big whip antenna and that’s something most of the mall crawlers don’t sport.

This is true. Though I’ve always been in the camp: just because something is bad or performs poorly, doesn’t mean we should be OK with it becoming worse. In all things in life though, not just cars.
Ultimately , the driver probably likes the aesthetics more than all of the cons. Which accounts for about half of the car mods I see on the road anyway.

I imagine it won’t be significant, otherwise all manufacturers would be using rough paints to improve MPG numbers.
Or are the gov mandated MPG tests done on a dyno?

Most Jeepers I know religiously clean their rugs after a day off road and you would never know it had been off-roading the antenna is a solid indicator that they do use it.

I’ve never been a fan of the entire vehicle. Although I do plan on doing the bottom quarter of my Jeep in the liner.

I would think the rough surface would be worse than a smooth surface.

Fluid dynamics was one of my worst classes, but I do remember that turblent flow can have less drag than laminar flow. The little eddies caused by turblent flow can actually help push the slower moving air away from the surface. Or something like that. And I’m sure too much turbulence is bad too.

Also, if you ever need body work done, I would think this further complicates that.
